CLUB NEWS

Finals Weekend

It is finals weekend this weekend at Brecon Bowling Club (Saturday 6th September & Sunday 7th September). Various Singles, Doubles, Triples and Fours finals will be played across the 2 days. It would be great to see as many members and non-members as possible present, to watch and support the players. Hopefully the weather won't interfere! Thank you to the volunteers, markers etc.  Good luck to everyone involved.

Fellow bowlers,

Sadly, we have to announce the passing of 3 club members in recent weeks.

John Barker - an all round gentleman and our club barbecue supremo!

Ivor Davies - a very keen and competitive bowler and stalwart of the local farming community.

Barry Tomlinson - Barry had a very distinguished bowling career, a former President of the Mid Wales BA, Brecon Club President, member of the charity fundraising group, Barbarians, and current sponsor of the Mid Wales CBA.

Barry was a generous benefactor to Brecon Bowling club, and as designer and architect of the club pavilion, his legacy will live on. His funeral will take place on Wednesday 20th August at 11.30am in Llanddew Church (LD3 9ST) followed by internment in the churchyard. Barry’s family would be pleased to welcome all to Brecon Bowling Club for the funeral tea afterwards and hope that many past and present Brecon Club members will be able to be there.

Congratulations

The Club is pleased to congratulate Tony Price and Keith Cutts on their  victory in  the Mid-Wales Senior Pairs competition in Llandrindod Wells on July 13th. They faced tough opposition in Robert and David Weale, winning by 18 points to 15. A wonderful achievement, the club is very proud of you both !

Tuesday 13th May

This marked the 75th Anniversary of the opening of the bowling green in Brecon.

The Mayor of Brecon Cllr Marie Matthews attended the club  to cut a celebratory cake and raised a toast to many more successful years at the club. Our President, Paul Tambling,  joined the Mayor and delivered a speech outlining the clubs history and background. We also had a reporter from the ‘Brecon and Radnor’ Express in attendance to take photographs and video of the evening, resulting in a lovely photograph and article in the newspaper

Club Maintenance

A huge thank you goes out to those members who continue to work throughout the year in helping maintain the clubhouse and grounds. A lot of work has been done which is massively appreciated and represents a big saving for club funds
